Option 1 - Lesson Plan

Develop a lesson plan about some aspect of biotechnology (product, application, technique, principle or ELSI).

• Develop a lesson plan about some aspect of biotechnology (product, application, technique, principle or ELSI [ethical/legal/social issues]).
• Indicate what the objectives of your lesson plan are.
• Specify the audience for which the material is intended.
• You may include information presented in class in the lesson but you must also include significant new information as well. Include instructions and additional inbackground information for the instructor. A lesson plan should be detailed enough that someone else could use the lesson plan to teach the class just as well as you could.
• Be sure to include assessment methods.
• If you wish to use an alternative type of lesson plan that does not include all of the above items, you must check with and discuss it with Dr. Ingebritsen or Jim Cheaney before you begin.
• Be sure to include citations for reference materials. For World Wide Web materials give the author or source, title of the page, and the URL.

Evaluation Criteria

• Novelty; creativity (50 points)
• Clarity; understandability; references (50 points)
• Educational value (100 points)
• Accuracy of information; scientific value (100 points)

Option 2 - Term Paper

Write a term paper about some aspect of biotechnology (product, application, technique, principle or ELSI).

The length of the paper must be at least 2000-3000 words.

Be sure to include citations for reference materials. For world wide web materials give the author (if known) and the URL.

Evaluation Criteria

• Scientific value; accuracy of information (200 points)
• Novelty; creativity (50 points)
• Clarity; references (50 points)

Option 3 - Complete both Modules 4 and 5

Complete both Modules 4 and 5 simultaneously.

All assignments in Modules 4 and 5 should be completed and both tests taken. If on-campus, both tests will be taken simultaneously, unless prior arrangements are made.
