Assignment 1


Purpose:

This assignment is intended to provide you with experience in utilizing some of the Internet tools used in the course. In addition completion of the items will act to confirm your registration and provide your instructor with information needed to administer the course.

Item 1 (5 points):

Sign-up for ClassNet. See "How to Get Started" page.

Item 2 (5 points):

Use the email feature of ClassNet to send your instructor an e-mail message. Include in the message the following information.

  1. Your name.
  2. An address to which correspondence can be sent.
  3. A phone number and time(s) when you can be contacted.
  4. Information about why you signed up for the course and what you hope to get out of the course.

Item 3:

This item is for off-campus students only, on-campus students do not need a proctor. Identify a Proctor and have that individual fill out and return the Exam Proctor Agreement. Print out the Proctors page and have the individual who will act as your proctor complete and return it to the address indicated. If you are unable to print the page from your terminal, copy down the information below the area labeled Proctor Agreement.

Item 4 (10 points):

Post a paragraph or two about yourself (e.g. where you are from, why you are taking this course, hobbies, etc.) on the ClassNet Discussion Forum for your particular class (there is also a general Discussion Forum for ALL of ClassNet on the ClassNet Home Page....do NOT post there!). Your introduction should be submitted under the Topic "Submit Assignment 1". For further information about submitting and reading messages posted to the discussion forum, see the "ClassNet Discussion Forum" section under "Frequently Asked Questions"

Item 5 (5 points):

Complete the Technology Survey. Completing the survey is similar to taking an exam using ClassNet.

  • Login to ClassNet and use the Main Menu to select your class.
  • In the "Student Menu", select "Tech Survey" in the scrollable window labeled "Assignments".
  • Click on the button labeled "Complete".
  • The survey consists of "Multiple Choice" and "Short Essay" questions.
  • For "Multiple Choice" questions click on the button representing the best answer to the question
  • For "Short Essay" questions type your answer in the box provided.
  • When you are finished with the survey click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the Web page.
  • Note that you may change your responses to any of the questions at anytime before your submit the survey
