ClassNet Instructions
How do I enroll in ClassNet?
NOTE:
Enrolling in Classnet is not the same as enrolling in the course
itself. Students must be registered for a course prior to enrolling
in Classnet. Classnet is a service provided to the instructors and
students to enhance the on-line course experience.
- Go to the ClassNet homepage.
- Follow the link to "ClassNet Main Menu".
- Scroll down to "First-time Options".
- Follow the link to "Enroll as a Student".
- Select the "Gen 308-508" class
for the appropriate semester and fill out the form on
the "Enroll as a Student"
page.

How do I send an Email message using
ClassNet?
- Login to ClassNet.
- In the "Student Menu", click
on the button labeled "Email".
- Follow the instructions for sending
an email message under Email

- Note that it is a good idea to send a
copy of the message to yourself.
How do I contact another student in this
class?
- Login to ClassNet.
- In the "Student Menu", click
on the button labeled "Email".
- Follow the instructions for sending
an email message under Email

- You can send a message to a single
student, all of the students in the class or a subset of the
students in the class.
- Note that it is a good idea to send a
copy of the message to yourself.
How do I read a
message in the discussion forum?
- Login to ClassNet.
- In the "Student Menu", click
on the button labeled "Discuss".
- Click on the appropriate topic (e.g.
Module 1 - Questions/Discussion).
- Scroll through the messages related
to this topic.
How do I submit a
message to the discussion forum?
- Login to ClassNet.
- In the "Student Menu", click
on the button labeled "Discuss".
- Click on the appropriate topic (e.g.
Module 1 - Questions/Discussion).
- Click on the button labeled "Add
Message"
- Fill in the required information
blocks and the box labeled "Your Email Address" (under optional
information).
- Type your message in the "Message"
block.
- Click on the button labeled "Preview
Message".
- Click on the button labeled "Post the
Message" or "Edit some more" as appropriate.
How do I respond

How do I use the "Chat" feature of
ClassNet?
- Arrange for the instructor and/or one
or more other students to meet you at a particular time in the
course "Chat Room".
- Login to ClassNet.
- In the "Student Menu", click
on the button labeled "Chat".
- Type a message in a box in the lower
frame of the Web page.
- Look or your message or messages from
others in the "Chat Room" in the upper frame of the Web page. The
Web page is automatically updated at 10 second
intervals.
How do I take a test
using ClassNet?
- Login to ClassNet.
- In the "Student Menu",
select the exam you want to take in the scrollable window labeled
"Assignments".
- Click on the button labeled
"Complete".
- Your proctor must now enter the
"Password" for this exam in the appropriate box.
- Click on the button labeled
"Verify".
- Exams may consist of "Multiple Choice",
"Fill-In-The-Blank" or "Short
Essay" questions.
- For "Multiple Choice"
questions click on the button representing the best answer to the
question
- For "Fill-In-The-Blank"
questions type in the appropriate word in the box
provided.
- For "Short Essay"
questions type your answer in the box provided.
- When you are finished with the test
click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the Web page.
- Note that you may change your answers
to any of the questions at anytime before you click on the
"Submit"
button.
Why do I need a proctor take an exam?
- The proctor verifies your identity
and supervises the administration of the exam.
- You will need a password supplied by
the proctor to access each of the exams. The password is different
for each exam.
- You will need to contact your proctor
to arrange a suitable time and place to take each exam.
How do I get a proctor?
- Mary
Nims (m_nims@molebio.iastate.edu)
will act as proctor for all on-campus ISU students taking the
course. Mary is the Project BIO secretary. She is located in 339
Sci II. Her phone number is 294-0321.
- Off-campus students will need to
identify a proctor in your local community. Additional information
and the Proctor Agreement Form.
How do I view my
score for a particular test?
- Answers to "Multiple Choice" and
"Fill-In-The-Blank" questions are machine graded as soon as you submit
a particular exam.
- To view a partial score reflecting
your performance on these questions click on the button labeled
"Scores"
in the ClassNet "Student
Menu".
- "Short Essay" questions are graded by the instructor. When
these are graded, your final score will be posted on the
appropriate "Grades" Web page which can be accessed from the
course homepage.
How do I view the
correct answers for a particular test?
- Login to ClassNet.
- In the "Student Menu",
select the appropriate exam from the scrollable window labeled
"Assignments".
- Click on the button labeled
"Answers".
- Note that you cannot view the answers
until you have completed the exam.
