Information for High School Students

Several of the courses offered are introductory courses which would be suitable for high school students. These courses will either meet general education requirements or meet requirements specific to a particular major at Iowa State. High school students wishing to enroll in one or more of these courses should consult the "Iowa State University Bulletin" to see how a particular course will fit with their educational objectives.

High school students in Iowa may be able to take advantage of the "Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act". This act, in some cases, allows a student to take a course and have their school district pay the tuition. For additional information please see PSEOA excerpts and answers to PSEOA questions.

Iowa State University requires that all high school students be admitted as a "Special Student" prior to enrolling in courses. Students are strongly encouraged to begin the enrollment process in the semester prior to the semester the course is offered. For information and enrollment instructions please refer to enrollment.

Students enrolled under the "Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act" should also read the information page, books and fees, which provides details concerning how Iowa State handles textbooks and fees imposed for students withdrawing from courses.
