Overview of Course Construction

Constructing course materials for delivery via the Internet is a multistep proccess involving original instructional materials, the instructor, software, and technical assistance. The process begins with the lecture notes, usually found in Microsoft Powerpoint or Microsoft Word format. Student assistants convert these notes into the text and images found in the Web lecture with a HTML editor such as Claris Homepage. The instructor then records an audio version of the lecture. Again, student employees will do the necessary editing, encoding, and linking, cutting down on the time instructors need to spend during course construction. Within a reasonable amount of time, the total package will be ready for student access.
