The winged spindle tree
is a dense, flat-topped shrub or small tree usually broader than high, with
stiff, horizontally spreading branches. The bark of young twigs is broken
into four thin, blade-like corky ridges. Native to northeast Asia, it is
hardy in the US from zones 4 to 8 and is used in landscaping for its brilliant
fall coloring, horizontal form and interesting winged twigs. |
