Prunus serotina (Black cherry): Leaves
Leaves are simple, alternate and oblong-lanceolate, with finely toothed margins with the tips of the teeth curved inward (those of the choke cherry, P. virginiana, point outward). The leaves are dark green above with dense, reddish-brown hairs along the midrib near the base of the leaf at maturity. The petiole usually has 1 or 2 glands near the base of the leaf. Fall color is yellow or light orange.
