Yews are native throughout most of the Northern Hemisphere, and have
been cultivated in Europe and Britain for centuries. The yews are a small
genus of 6 to 8 species of compact, multistemmed, long-lived, evergreen
trees and shrubs. There is a wide variety in habit, size, growth rate and
texture among the cultivars. Year-round, yews have high quality, dark green
foliage. They are popular because they have a dense, compact appearance,
are easy to transplant, and tolerate heavy pruning and urban pollution (except
road salt). |
